Is timing everything for 3D and 4D scans?

At the 19 week morphology scan (see our post on what is a morphology scan – link to corporate blog post) your baby is about 18cm in length and doesn’t have the chubby facial features yet. A 3D image at this early stage will appear quite skeletal and whilst we think they still look gorgeous at this stage, it isn’t always what parents expect. We suggest that the best time to perform a 3D and 4D imaging scan is between 28 – 32 weeks. It is at the 28 week mark that your baby will start to gain the chubby cheeks and hopefully contribute to some beautiful picturesThi dependant on the other factors affecting imaging quality (see our post on “what’s in a clear picture?”) There is a small window where we can usually get some great momentos for you but there is a fine line between baby not being big enough to get the gorgeous chubby cheeks and as baby grows nestling right into the uterus wall or placenta.
