Our most commonly asked question is – What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D?

“2D is the still black and white ultrasound images you see with any of your medical ultrasound scans. It is a ‘single plane’ image of your baby. A 3D or 3 dimensional image puts all the 2D images together to get the full facial view of the baby not just one slice. This enables us to demonstrate the surface structure of what you are looking at. 4D or the fourth dimension is being able to view the 3D view in ‘real time’. Meaning that we are able to watch what your baby is doing, such as when it is yawning or smiling or frowning.”

What is 4D ultrasound?
4D ultrasound is 3D imaging in real time. In your 4D session you will get a DVD of 4D video and CD of 3D photos.
How many visitors / can I bring my family?
We are happy for you to share this wonderful experience with friends and family. We suggest 2/3 would be comfortable in our rooms, and children are welcome also.

When can I find out the sex of my baby?
From 16 weeks gestation, gender can be determined in the majority of cases. If you would like to find out the sex of your baby during your session, we are more than happy to reveal it (provided baby is not shy!).

What if we don’t want to know the sex of the baby?
If you are waiting to be surprised, we can easily keep this a secret. Simply let us know on arrival.

Do I need a full bladder for a 4D scan?
You will not need to drink a litre of fluid prior to arrival however we do suggest that you have a reasonably full bladder on arrival. We recommend keeping yourself well hydrated in the few days leading up to and the day of your scan to obtain the best pictures.

When do we get our images and DVD?
All photos are edited and printed during your 4D ultrasound appointment. Your photos, CD, DVD and album (if included) will all be available to take home at the end of your session.

What are the costs involved?
We have 3 packages available to suit your needs, ranging from $159-$289 ($50 extra for twins). Please visit our “Packages” page for more information.

How long is my 4D ultrasound appointment?
Our 4D appointments are 30 minutes each. Your live scan time will be between 15-20 minutes, and your sonographer will then prepare your photo package for you to take home.

How far in advance should I Book my 4D scan?
We perform our 4D ultrasounds by appointment only. By contacting us early, we can find a convenient time for yourself, you partner and anyone else who will join you. For those who work during the week, we offer Saturday morning times especially for you! These times book quickly, so you are best to ring well in advance.

Do I need a referral from my Doctor?
No, 4D scans are not a medical, diagnostic scan, it is purely for your enjoyment. Therefore, a Doctor does not need to refer you for this.

Are scans covered by Medicare or Private Health Care Funds?
As this scan is not for medical purposes, neither Medicare or Private Health will cover any costs.

Who will perform my Ultrasound?
All of our sonographers are accredited and qualified, with vast experience in obstetrics. See our ‘meet the team’ page for more information.
When is the best time to have my 3D/4D Ultrasound?
With our experience in 4D ultrasound we have found that between 26 and 32 weeks of pregnancy is the time where we can obtain the best photos. There is still enough fluid around the baby to obtain clear photos and their features are well developed by now. Certainly if you require any medical scans during this time, we can organise for the 4D to be done at the same time.
What can I do to improve the quality of my ultrasound?
As well as keeping yourself well hydrated, Having something light to eat prior to coming in can help with baby’s energy, hopefully improving their performance for the scan!

What happens if my baby is in a hard to see position?
Unfortunately, babies, even before they are born, can be a little uncooperative! We will do our very best to achieve wonderful images for you. In the case that this is not possible as the baby’s position, fluid level or age is not suitable it may be possible for you to reschedule for another time.

What if you see something wrong with my baby?
As this is not a medical scan we will not be looking for abnormalities with baby. As our sonographers are extensively trained in obstetrics they will unfortunately occasionally detect a problem that needs to be followed up by your doctor. In the case of discovering an abnormality with your baby, we will contact your doctor directly with your permission. We will then refer you directly to your doctor.

Where are you located?
Our rooms are located at 257 Fullarton Road, Parkside. Enter our onsite parking off Hone Street. See our “contact us” page.
Can I buy a Gift Voucher?
Yes, we have gift vouchers available for 4D scans. You can purchase a package or simply a dollar amount. They make a unique and memorable baby shower, mother’s day gift, or for any occasion really!

The quality of the images will vary depending on your baby’s age, position, amniotic fluid levels and maternal anatomy.

Whilst the images on our website are taken from actual SDR patients, we cannot control all the factors affecting your 4D scan and therefore cannot guarantee the images obtained will replicate those on the website.

NOTE: There is a $50 surcharge for twins & triplets to cover the extra scan time required.
